Visa and residence permit to live in France
The rules depend on your nationality, the length of stay and your activity. EU nationals, families, retirees, freelancers and employees do not follow the same path.
What to prepare before leaving
- Valid passport and proof of resources
- Proof of accommodation in France
- Health insurance covering the first period
- Sworn translations of civil records if requested
Once you arrive
Validation or filing happens online, then at the Alpes-Maritimes or Var préfecture depending on your town. Allow for appointment delays, especially in season.
