Property

Legal: notaire, contracts and paperwork

In France the notaire is a public officer: they secure the sale, check title and planning, collect taxes. They are not one party's lawyer.

Legal points not to leave to chance

  • Conditions precedent: financing, planning, easements
  • Mandatory surveys and the state of the property
  • Matrimonial regime and inheritance consequences
  • Power of attorney to sign without being present

When to add a lawyer

Estate structuring, property holding companies, co-ownership disputes, immigration law: these are lawyer matters, not notaire matters. The address book holds trusted ones.

L'essentiel en français

Rôle du notaire, compromis de vente, conditions suspensives, procuration pour signer à distance, régime matrimonial et succession : le cadre juridique d'un achat immobilier en France.
